Psychology Today Profile
About Me
Straight out of high school, I started working with people as a personal trainer, thinking I’d eventually move into teaching and coaching. Over the next 6-8 years, I explored various jobs that all focused on developing others while I earned a Diploma and a Bachelor of Arts. After getting married and with our first child on the way, my wife asked if I’d ever considered becoming a therapist. It just clicked. This career perfectly matched my strengths and experiences, and most importantly, it aligned with what I found most fulfilling in all my previous work—empowering people. Since then, I’ve completed my Master’s in Counselling Psychology and am now a Registered Psychotherapist.
My Philosophy & Approach
I work hard to hold a compassionate and safe space to empower you to get fully intune with your emotions, thoughts, and physical experiences. At the heart of my practice is the belief that when people tune into their inner experiences they gain more control and agency over their lives.
I use a variety of therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS). I also incorporate elements of Narrative and Solution-Focused Therapy.
When working with couples, I primarily use EFT and ACT, along with insights from Gottman’s principles. I approach these sessions with an attachment lens, believing that as couples learn to move towards each other and build safety within their relationship, they can thrive through the challenges and the complexities of their relationship.
Areas of Focus
I primarily work with individuals dealing with anxiety, depression, grief, stress, relationship challenges, emotional regulation, and post-secondary stress. I’m always expanding my knowledge by learning and incorporating new methods and techniques. Currently, I’m pursuing additional training to support individuals with ADD/ADHD.
I also work with couples who feel disconnected, are navigating stressful times, or are unsure about the future of their relationship. If you find yourself stuck in a cycle of never-ending arguments or questioning whether your relationship can last, I can help. Together, we’ll identify and understand the patterns and dynamics that aren’t working in your relationship. From there, I’ll guide you in developing skills to manage healthy conflict, gain fresh insights, and create new patterns that meet both your needs and your partner’s.
Beyond the Therapy Room
When I’m not working, you’ll find me having fun with my two daughters, enjoying the outdoors, as well as playing, talking and/or watching soccer, hockey, and most other sports from time to time.
